ARCQE - Possibilities for Practice (PfP) Learning Series Group 1

ARE CURRENTLY WORKING IN A CHILDCARE, FDH OR OSC PROGRAM

The following is an overview of topics pertaining to the FLIGHT framework that will be explored through a six-part professional learning series titled Possibilities for Practice (PfP). This series is particularly relevant for anyone seeking an introduction to the guiding principles of practice intended to inform curriculum implementation.

PLEASE MAKE SURE THAT YOU HAVE PROVIDED YOUR CORRECT EMAIL, PROGRAM'S NAME AND PROGRAM ID NUMBER UPON REGISTRATION.

ALL SIX (6) SESSIONS FOR THE FULL SIX (6) WEEKS HAVE TO BE ATTENDED TO RECEIVE A CERTIFICATE OF COMPLETION 

Sessions Description:

SESSION 1: WHAT IS CURRICULUM?

This introduction will provide educators with a foundation background on the curriculum framework and the guiding principles. Participants will reflect on their practices and the approaches in their daily practices, through conversation and thinking on how curriculum may affect the way they are interacting with children in their programs. Participants will think about how comfortable they are with the term curriculum and how curriculum will fit into your program and how they may be able to make the language more familiar/comfortable.

SESSION 2: IMAGE OF THE CHILD

This session will consist of two parts. Part One continues the conversation about the what curriculum in the early years consists of when reflecting on the image of the child. Part Two will introduce and explore the concept of Image of the Child, fundamental concepts in Flight, and how this image may be used to interpret our beliefs, values and practice.

SESSION 3:  RESPONSIVE ENVIRONMENTS

Based upon the last session's discussion about the image of the child, you may want to begin to think about how to pull together threads from that discussion to transition into exploring some thoughts about responsive environments. This might be thinking about how our image of the child influences what we do regarding practice including time, space, materials, and participation. Therefore, the purpose of this session is to introduce exploring responsive environments within the framework.

SESSION 4: PRACTICE OF RELATIONSHIPS

The purpose of this session is to introduce explorations of the practice of relationships around the role of the educators based upon the discussion about responsive environments. Educators will explore their thoughts about the practice of relationships, which impacts and influences relationships and the role of the educators.

SESSION 5: CREATING A CULTURE OF LEARNING

This session is intended to continue supporting administrators and core team leaders with strategies on how to create a 'culture of learning' within individual programs that will engage educators in their understanding of the Flight framework and practical application in relation to their work with young children.

SESSION 6: PEDAGOGICAL LEADERSHIP

This session is intended to explore concepts of pedagogical leadership and provide an overview of Pedagogical Partner support available to programs following the introduction to curriculum framework concepts introduced as part of this series.
