CDS PD Funding Fact Sheet

We still have funding left! If you are a Child Development Supervisor (formally level 3) and you work in a licensed daycare, out-of-school care, or family dayhome agency you can qualify for up to $1,000 towards post-secondary courses and $200 towards workshops and conferences.

Steps for Funding
Workshops and Conferences

  1. Applications must be submitted PRIOR to the start date of the event. Applications received after the professional development has taken place will not be approved.
  1. PD funding is only available to CDS’ working in a daycare, out-of-school care or a family dayhome agency. CDS’ working in a preschool or who are a dayhome provider do not qualify for funding at this time.
  1. Before you start your application, ensure you have an electronic copy of both your CDS child care qualification certificate and the receipt for the PD you are applying for – a receipt is mandatory.
  1. Complete the application form on the AECEA website at https://aecea.ca/webform/grant-application-form. We only communicate by email, please ensure that the email address is spelled correctly.
  1. Within a few days you will receive a pre-approval or declination email.
  1. A reflection form is required to be submitted within TWO weeks of the event end date at https://aecea.ca/webform/reflection-form
  1. Once the reflection form is received, a cheque will be mailed to the organization of employment. If the CDS has paid out-of-pocket for the workshop or conference, the funding must be distributed to them from the organization.
Post-Secondary Courses

  1. Applications must be submitted PRIOR to the start date of the course. Applications received after the course has started will not be approved.
  1. PD funding is only available to CDS’ working in a daycare, out-of-school care or a family dayhome agency. CDS’ working in a preschool or who are a dayhome provider do not qualify for funding at this time.
  1. A receipt is not mandatory; however, you must show proof of enrollment and expected tuition costs electronically. You must also have an electronic copy of your CDS child care qualification certificate.
  1. Complete the application form on the AECEA website at https://aecea.ca/webform/grant-application-form. We only communicate by email, please ensure that the email address is spelled correctly.
  1. Within a few days you will receive a pre-approval or declination email.
  1. Funding will be issued following approval (payment schedule is twice per month) to the organization of employment. If the CDS has paid out-of-pocket for the course, the funding must be distributed to them from the organization.
  1. A reflection form is required to be submitted within TWO weeks of the event end date at https://aecea.ca/webform/reflection-form. If the reflection form is not submitted within this timeframe, funds MUST be returned to AECEA.
Approved Funding Topics Examples

Please keep in mind that the list below is not a complete list and we may fund other topics. If you have any questions about whether or not a program would be funded, contact AECEA directly.

  • Leadership
  • Pedagogical leadership
  • Program management (human resources, financial, etc.)
  • Coaching
  • Communication (with children, families and other professionals)
  • Curriculum framework (play, participation and possibilities)
  • Children's rights and mental health
  • Cultural sensitivity and diversity
  • Inclusion
Possible Declination Reasons
  • Application submitted late (application needs to be received BEFORE the professional development has been attended)
  • Applicant is not a Canadian Citizen or Canadian Permanent Resident
  • Funding topic is not approved (WHMIS, first aid, food hygiene, English courses, etc.)
  • Late or not submitted reflection form
  • Applicant is not a CDS
  • Applicant has reached their maximum funding available for that year
  • PD is for a program outside of Canada
  • Applicant does not work in an out of school care, daycare or family day home agency
  • Funding has become depleted
