Earlier today (February 10, 2021), Premier Kenney announced that one-time payments of $1,200 will be distributed to front-line workers across the province. AECEA is excited to share that early childhood educators (ECEs) working in licensed day care, group family child care, out-of-school care, and contracted family day home agencies will be eligible to receive this one-time payment. Educators must have worked at least 243 hours total from October 12, 2020 - January 31, 2021 to be eligible. These funds will be processed starting March 22, 2021 through the programs for them to distribute to their employees.
ECEs have been working hard throughout this entire pandemic and it is gratifying to see that some support is being made available. To view the letter from the Minister of Children's Services to program operators about the benefit, go here.
On February 11, 2021, a second letter was sent out to preschool programs indicating that preschool educators will also qualify for the benefit, assuming they meet the 243-hour requirement. AECEA is in the process of gathering further information on how this will work for all types of child care and early childhood educators. As further information is received, it will be made available.
