The early childhood studio: languages, materials, and collective experimentation
Presented by Sylvia Kind
The early childhood studio, as conceptualized through the work at the Capilano University Children’s Centre is a place of experimental interplay. We have imagined the studio as a site of collective inquiry that affords both children and educators time to dwell with materials, linger in artistic processes, and work together on particular ideas and propositions, creating a relational space of investigating and creating together; constructing, making, and co-composing understandings. Artistic languages are understood as ways of knowing and being and are central in these studio inquiries. In this workshop we will engage with studio processes through a variety of materials and artistic media as we explore some of the ideas generated through young children’s inquiries and long-term projects.
