Child Development Worker and Child Development Assistant
Professional Development Funding

Child Development Workers (CDWs) and Child Development Assistants (CDAs) looking to obtain higher levels of certification and attend approved courses, conferences and workshops related to early learning and child care may apply to the Ministry of Children's Services Accreditation Funding program for funding assistance. CDWs and CDAs are able to access a professional development grant to assist with tuition fees and required textbooks.

Professional development funding is available for CDA's and CDW's who work in pre-accredited, or accredited, licensed child care centres. The levels of funding available to CDA's and CDW's through Alberta Children's Services vary based on number of hours claimed for the two consecutive months immediately prior to either the date of the expenditure or the date the application is received.

Day care and contracted family day home agency employees:

Hours claimed each month for two previous consecutive months Professional development grant limit
Fewer than 28 Not eligible
28 to 79 Up to $250 per fiscal year
80 or more Up to $1,000 per fiscal year

 

Out-of-school care employees:

Hours claimed each month for two previous consecutive months Professional development grant limit
Fewer than 28 Not eligible
28 to 79 Up to $250 per fiscal year
80 or more Up to $600 per fiscal year

 

Employees who work in both day care and out-of-school care:

Total combined hours in out-of-school care and day care Professional development grant limit
Fewer than 28 Not eligible
28 to 79 Up to $250 per fiscal year
80 or more total, but 79 or less in day care Up to $600 per fiscal year
80 or more in day care Up to $1,000 per fiscal year
