Job Summary: 

The Families Matter Society of Calgary strives to promote optimal child development and family resilience by helping caregivers learn about early childhood development, by providing concrete supports in times of need; by helping families build strong relationships, and by creating lasting, supportive social networks among families.

We are looking for a passionate and committed professional to join our organization as a Parenting Education Facilitator with our Fathering for the Future program. This program delivers services designed specifically for fathers to build their parenting capacity and increase their understanding of early learning and development though coaching, education and father-child activities.

As a Facilitator you will provide a safe, engaging, and supportive learning environment for fathers and their young children to attend “Papa Bears” a 6-session group parent-child activity based on “Parent Child Mother Goose” (training provided) which include singing, story telling and play based activities to promote healthy child development, fathering capacity-building, and family resilience.


  • A degree or diploma in a Human Services field is required with a minimum of 3 years of experience working with families with young children.
  • Experience providing support to parents by addressing and reducing risk factors, and building family protective factors.
  • Understanding of and experience with building fathering capacity.
  • Strong knowledge of early childhood development.
  • Experience delivering parenting education and/or parent-child learning sessions.
  • Training as a Parent Child Mother Goose facilitator is an asset.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficient computer skills.
  • Ability to work in a very organized, accurate and detail-oriented way.
  • Self-directed, and able to take initiative.
  • Experience fathering and parenting young children is an asset


  • Deliver the Papa Bears series in person to parent & child participants at various locations in Calgary
  • Develop supportive and mentoring relationship with fathers participating in the groups around parenting and early childhood development
  • Engage fathers in songs, nursery rhymes and play based activities with their young children.
  • Assist fathers with referrals to community services and resources as required.

Hourly Rate: $40 per hour

  • Parent-Child Group sessions: Six 2-hour sessions, plus 1 hour of prep and clean-up time per session for a total of 18 hours per Papa Bears series facilitated
