Trauma-Informed Practice and the Mindful Classroom--Indigenous Context

This session will examine short and long term impacts of trauma in relation to assimilation policies and attitudes which contribute to damage of the whole self, families, and communities within an Indigenous context.

This session also includes the Brain Architecture Game which is a tabletop game experience that builds an understanding of the powerful role of experiences on brain development – what promotes it, what derails it, with what consequences for society.

Awareness and acknowledgment of how trauma affects brain development contribute to a better understanding of the student context while providing strategies to be a part of their support structures which enhance positive growth. Mindful school and class activities will be explored which encourages students' self-regulation, esteem, and awareness.
