Alberta Family Child Care Toolkit Survey

Family child care in Alberta has grown significantly in recent years, with the rapid expansion of licensed family day home agencies and increasing demand for high-quality early learning and child care. As the sector continues to evolve, there is a need for accessible, practical, and consistent resources to support both new and experienced family day home educators and agencies.

While valuable resources currently exist through agencies, organizations, and professional networks, information is often spread across multiple sources, making it challenging to navigate licensing requirements, quality practices, professional responsibilities, and available support. To address these needs, the Association of Early Childhood Educators of Alberta (AECEA), in partnership with the Alberta Family Child Care Association (AFCCA), is developing a Provincial Family Day Home Toolkit to support onboarding, ongoing professional practice, and the delivery of high-quality care across Alberta.

This survey aims to better understand:

  • The experiences and challenges of new and experienced family day home educators.
  • Current onboarding experiences and opportunities for improvement.
  • Existing supports, trusted sources of information, and knowledge gaps among new and experienced family day home educators.
  • Priority topics and resources to include in the Provincial Family Day Home Toolkit.

Estimated time to complete: 10–15 minutes

Your participation is voluntary, and all responses will be kept confidential and used to inform the toolkit development. At the end of the survey, you will have the option to express interest in participating in a follow-up interview.

As a thank you for your time, respondents will have the option to enter a draw for one of ten $50 prizes. Participation in the draw is optional and will not affect your participation in the survey.
