AECEA Believes that QUALIFICATIONS MATTER
Did You Know...The Alberta Child Care Licensing Act and Regulations (Licensing) expired on January 2021?
AECEA Recommends:
- Replacing the current three-level certification system (Child Development Assistant [CDA], Child Development Worker [CDW], Child Development Supervisor [CDS]) with:
- Early Childhood Educator I (ECE I) - certificate in early learning and child care.
- Early Childhood Educator II (ECE II) - diploma in early learning and child care.
- Early Childhood Educator III (ECE III) - diploma in early learning and child care with a post-diploma certificate in management or pedagogical leadership.
- Introducing a new level of certification, Early Childhood Education IV (ECE IV), to recognize educators with higher early learning and child care (ELCC) education (ECE degree) and build capacity in the field.
- Removing CDA as a recognized certification for all new educators entering the field and creating a bridging plan that supports current CDAs upgrade to the new minimum standard.
These changes will allow well-qualified educators to build a high quality early learning and child care system.
Ask: How will the new act and regulations demand and recognize higher qualifications for educators?
