Did You Know...The Alberta Child Care Licensing Act and Regulations (Licensing) expired on January 2021?
AECEA Recommends:
- Changing the name of the Child Care Licensing Act to the Early Learning and Child Care Act.
- Replacing all references to "child care" with "early learning and child care" throughout the act and regulations.
- Changing the term "day care program" to "centre-based early learning and child care program".
- Recognizing the importance of well-qualified educators in the preamble to the act.
- Adopting the term "early childhood educators" to replace the current classifications of "child development supervisor", "child development worker" and "child development assistant".
These changes will help to give early learning and child care the respect that it deserves.
