Children's Services launches additional technical briefings on the Cost Control Framework and For-Profit Expansion Plan Technical Briefings.
"On January 31, 2023, the governments of Alberta and Canada announced more private child care spaces are now eligible for funding supports under the Alberta-Canada Early Learning and Child Care (ACELCC) Agreement. As part of the Agreement, Alberta committed to developing a Cost Control Framework and For-Profit Expansion Plan to increase access to affordable child care spaces across the province and reduce child care fees for Alberta families.
With this made-in-Alberta framework, up to 22,500 additional licensed private child care spaces will be eligible for funding supports starting this year and over the next three years. This is on top of the 42,500 non-profit child care spaces being created by 2025-2026.
The Cost Control Framework will include a funding model for core child care costs, which will reflect the typical cost of operating a child care space, including modifiers where necessary to ensure that funding is responsive to specific needs and circumstances across the province.
In March, we held four virtual technical briefings to provide information on the Cost Control Framework and For-Profit Expansion Plan as a first step in working with child care stakeholders on the implementation of the framework over the course of 2023-24.
To ensure all child care operators are able to attend a technical briefing, we are offering one additional session in April. This session will be the same as the sessions held in March.
• April 18th from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. via Zoom at this link
To further support family day home (FDH) agencies and providers, a technical briefing will be held to share information on how FDHs are represented in the ACELCC Agreement and the Cost Control Framework and For-Profit Expansion Plan. We hope FDH agencies will provide this invitation to all FDH providers so they can attend the technical briefing to learn more about the framework and ask questions and share comments.
• April 19th from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. via Zoom at this link
If you are interested in attending one of these sessions, please register by clicking on the Zoom link above.
Participants will have the opportunity to ask questions at the sessions. If you have further comments and questions on the implementation of the Cost Control Framework and For-Profit Expansion Plan following the sessions, please submit them here by April 22nd. A Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) document will be developed to help address questions. The FAQ document will be made available to operators later this month.
For more information on the Cost Control Framework and For-Profit Expansion Plan, you can visit the Children’s Services website or access the Framework here."
