Government of Alberta Updates to the Early Childhood Educator Portal

The Government of Alberta has announced upcoming enhancements to the Early Childhood Educator (ECE) Portal that will take effect on July 16, 2026.

These updates are intended to provide educators with greater access to information about their certification and funding.

Key updates include:

  • A redesigned ECE certificate featuring a new layout, QR code, and unique verification code to make it easier for employers to verify certification.
  • A new funding section where educators can view funding claimed on their behalf by their employer, including:
    • wage top-up funding,
    • professional development funding, and
    • release time funding.
  • The Portal will show a 12-month rolling history of funding claims beginning with January 2026, along with employment history in Alberta's child care sector.

The Government of Alberta has also provided answers to frequently asked questions about these changes, including information about:

  • accessing the ECE Portal,
  • the new certificate design and QR code,
  • understanding the funding display, and
  • what to do if you have questions about funding or certification.
