MRU XECE 10005 - The Professional Role of the Early Childhood Educator

Event Date
Fri, Mar 28 2025, 12pm

Examine the professional role of an Early Childhood Educator. You will explore intercultural practice and acknowledge others’ lived experiences and ways of knowing as they relate to working with teams. You will also be provided with support for improving vocabulary, oral communication, and writing skills to strengthen English as an Additional Language learner competence and confidence.

Please be aware that this extension certificate offers a valuable opportunity for individuals currently working with children and families, aiming to gain insights into Flight basics and deepen their understanding of the ELCC profession/role in Alberta. Upon finishing the 5 courses, students will enhance their readiness to engage in Alberta programs and better equipped for post-secondary applications. The courses incorporate strategies for English as an additional language and are approved by Children's Services for PD funding and release time. However, it's important to note that if you are not yet ECE certified, this program does not meet the requirements for obtaining ECE certification.

Alberta Child Care Grant Funding Program Approved: Each of the micro-credential courses are approved under the workshop category (all levels) for Professional Development funding at $215 and a maximum of 15 hours of Release Time for those working in licensed child care programs. Refer to the Alberta Child Care Grant Funding Program website to confirm if you are eligible.

We acknowledge that what we call Alberta is the traditional and ancestral territory of many peoples, presently subject to Treaties 6, 7, and 8. Namely: the Blackfoot Confederacy – Kainai, Piikani, and Siksika – the Cree, Dene, Saulteaux, Nakota Sioux, Stoney Nakoda, and the Tsuu T’ina Nation and the Métis People of Alberta. This includes the Métis Settlements and the Six Regions of the Métis Nation of Alberta within the historical Northwest Metis Homeland. We acknowledge the many First Nations, Métis and Inuit who have lived in and cared for these lands for generations. We are grateful for the traditional Knowledge Keepers and Elders who are still with us today and those who have gone before us. We make this acknowledgement as an act of reconciliation and gratitude to those whose territory we reside on or are visiting.
