AECEA Believes that EDUCATION MATTERS
Did You Know...The Alberta Child Care Licensing Act and Regulations (Licensing) expired on January 2021?
AECEA Recommends:
- Requiring all early childhood educators who work in licensed and regulated child care programs to have specialized early learning and child care education.
- Removing educational equivalencies from the Child Care Licensing Regulation and instead implementing a bridging plan to help early childhood educators, whose certification is based on an educational equivalency, upgrade to the new standard.
- Requiring all early childhood educators who work as program directors or managers to be certified ECE IIIs, a classification that requires a post-diploma certificate in management or pedagogical leadership in addition to their two-year diploma specializing in early learning and care.
These changes will help to build capacity within educators, within programs and within the entire early learning and child care system.
Ask: How can early childhood educators provide quality programming and care without the proper education?
