Early Years Outdoor Play and Learning Certification Program

The Early Years Outdoor Play and Learning Certification is a 30-hour, evidence-based micro-credential designed to support Early Childhood Education (ECE) professionals in integrating outdoor play, nature connection, and Land-based learning into their practice. Through ten self-paced modules, participants explore child development in outdoor environments, design and facilitate inclusive play-based learning spaces, incorporate seasonal and Land-based activities, and promote children’s well-being, agency, collaboration, and leadership.

The goal of this professional learning opportunity is to equip educators with practical, research-informed strategies that can be embedded in curriculum and daily practice, helping children engage meaningfully with the outdoors while supporting holistic development, curiosity, and connection to place.

Learning Objectives

  • Plan and facilitate developmentally appropriate outdoor learning experiences that support children’s holistic growth.
  • Design inclusive, play-based outdoor environments that encourage exploration, curiosity, and social-emotional development.
  • Integrate seasonal, nature-based, and Land-based activities into curriculum and daily practice.
  • Promote children’s well-being, agency, collaboration, and leadership through guided and emergent outdoor learning experiences.
