Course description
The curriculum provides an introduction to the current early learning and child care landscape in Alberta including a general overview of the types of programs, governance, role of Early Childhood Educators, and theories that influence practice. Please note that if you are not yet ECE certified, this program does not meet the requirements for obtaining ECE certification.
Learner outcomes
Upon completion of this course, students will be able to
- identify the different types of programs where Early Childhood Educators may work.
- define the role of Alberta child care licensing and the national child care framework in early childhood education.
- list values and core concepts from Alberta’s early learning and child care curriculum framework: flight.
- recognize the Convention on the Rights of the Child, United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples and the Truth and Reconciliation Commission in relation to Early Childhood Educators.
- recognize a variety of different theories that support children’s development and learning.
